Abdul Qadir Names His Future Captain of Pakistan

Former Pakistan legendary bowler Abdul Qadir has named his Babar Azam as the likeliest candidate to lead Pakistan in the future.

Talking to local media outlet, Qadir said that the management needs to groom Babar to not only be a better leader but also a batsman, who can lead from the front.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should appoint Babar Azam as the vice-captain and prepare him for captaincy, as he is almost certain to lead Pakistan in future.

PCB should introduce a system of appointing vice-captains which was missing during the tenure of previous captains like Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez.

There is no denying that Babar Azam has been a revelation in Pakistan’s side ever since his inclusion. He has become a permanent part of the team in all formats but despite his crucial presence in the team, will he be a good choice as Pakistan’s future captain? Only time will tell.

Shadab Khan is another candidate who has been hailed as the future leader of the team. He recently also led Islamabad United in PSL 4 when Mohammad Sami was out injured.

Why Sideline Experienced Players?

Qadir has always been an advocate for finding the right balance in the side in terms of experienced and youth players. He, however, is not happy with how Pakistan are operating in the current moment.

He criticized the coach and selection committee for sidelining experienced players in favor of rookies for the biggest tournament; he named Wahab Riaz as someone who could have replaced Mohammad Hasnain.

Wahab Riaz should have been preferred over Hasnain as he is more experienced and can bowl at the same speed as Hasnain. He should have been groomed first, instead of being fast-tracked into the side.

Additionally, he also named Akmal brothers and Ahmed Shehzad as possible candidates who could have made their way to the Pakistan World Cup squad had they been groomed better.

Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal are being ignored despite performing well in the recently concluded season of HBL Pakistan Super League. Umar Akmal and Kamran Akmal can change the course of the match single-handedly and can play the role of power hitters.

  • Pakistan Cricket Captain Should be as “ALL-ROUNDER” because Only Batsman cannot advised or suggest to a bowler for bowling style or length etc

    Personal Opinion

    • What about Virat Kohli, Eoin Morgan, Kane Williamson, and all other successful batsman captains of the current and past era? It’s not how strategies work, my friend.
