Rescue 1122 has come a long way, starting out with a small number of vehicles and services, it has since expanded to include more and more facilities, covering a lot more cities in Punjab.
On 3rd July, Punjab’s Rescue 1122 responded to 862 road accidents across the province. Lahore topped the charts with 212 calls for emergency rescue. Multan called in for 78 emergencies and Faisalabad for 75, for the second and third highest calls in Punjab.
The road accidents injured over 1000 people while 12 lost their lives in 24 hours. 60% of the accidents involved motorcycles, in one way or the other, and a total of 613 people suffered serious injuries while 393 were provided first-aid on the spot for their minor injuries.
Here is a breakdown of accidents by vehicle types:
- 688 motorbikes
- 142 auto rickshaws
- 75 motorcars
- 38 vans
- 17 passenger buses
- 24 trucks
- 119 vehicles and slow-moving carts
20 underage drivers were also involved in the accidents reported to Rescue 1122. Further stats reveal that 458 passengers, 130 pedestrians and 430 drivers also became the victims of road traffic accidents.

Ever since Rescue 1122’s inception in 2004, Lahore has been the most incident-prone district of Punjab with over 20 million calls till 21 June 2019.
