Govt Rubbishes Rumors of Chairman FBR’s Removal

The federal government has rebuffed speculations about the newly-appointed Chairman Federal Board Revenue (FBR) being removed.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Naeem Ul Haque took to Twitter to clarify that Zaidi will continue serving in his post. His comments downplayed all the rumors of the FBR chairman’s removal.

In a Twitter post on Thursday, Haque wrote:

“Shabbar Zaidi not being changed. He will remain in his position.”

Earlier on Wednesday, a leading media group speculated that there was a rift between Shabbar Zaidi and his team due to his strict policies.

Moreover, the business committee was also unhappy with him and had been pressurizing the Prime Minister Imran Khan to replace him with any ‘acceptable’ person.

It also reported that PM Khan had canceled two meetings in a row with Zaidi and his team in the last two weeks.
