Russia has refused to recognize cricket as a sport – a game over two billion people passionately follow.
Russia’s sports ministry recently turned down a request to include cricket in its updated register of officially recognized sports.
Ironically, the update was issued on July 15 – a day after England’s dramatic World Cup win over New Zealand.
The country also refused to recognize Thai Boxing in its sports register. Some of the games recognized in the country are draughts, mini-golf, and petanque.
Though the exclusion does not amount to a ban on the sports in the largest Asian country, it deprives cricket organizations of financial grants from the government.
While the local cricket fraternity was disappointed over the decision, a member of the Moscow Cricket Sports Federation believed the rejection was because of a faulty application they put in.
Alexander Sorokin told local media that the federation would apply again next year for official recognition.
The decision is being widely criticized on social media.

People in Russia should come on roads for protesting against the decision. They should block the traffic roads or even flights at the airports or even their space missions to International Space Station for this senseless action of the government. How can you not approve cricket as a sport ? Is cricket a procedure of weapons smuggling or an atomic weapon ?

Mere pyaare bhai, UK naam ka koi mulk nai hai dunya mein. The diff b/w UK and England is the same diff b/w Hindustan and India. The last day of the country name Hindustan was on 14th of Aug 1947. Now there is no country name in the world which is called Hindustan. Similarly same rules apply on UK as well. Many movie and documentary makers also make this mistakes even teachers in schools, colleges and even at university level.
You need to go back to school mate. UK is the collective name for 4 countries: England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Island. They use Great Britain for international sporting events, which includes 3 main land countries: England, Scotland & Wales.
Scotland is separate country and Northern Island belongs to Ireland. Terrorist fanatic England did force occupation in both Scotland and Northern Island. In the past Ireland and Hong Kong and some Canadian lands were also part of England, at that time it was called UK not now. Let them use whatever they want to use doesn’t make it factual. So mate you need to go back to school and as well to a good doctor too. Same diff as USSR and Russia, now its called Russia and not Soviet Union.
