PIA is Facing Huge Losses Due to Bird Strikes

The incidents of bird strikes are increasing at airports all over the country. During the last seven months, over 34 Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) planes have been interrupted by bird strikes, causing losses worth millions of rupees to the national airline.

8 of the 34 planes affected by bird strikes underwent severe damage. Majority of the bird strike incidents occurred at Karachi and Lahore airports where 15 and 11 planes of the national flag carrier were damaged respectively.

Flocks of Birds Halt Flight Operations at Lahore Airport

Two cases of bird strike incidents were reported from Peshawar, Sukkur, and Quetta airports each while one such occurrence was reported from Islamabad Airport.

These incidents not only damage the planes but also badly disturb the flight schedule. Recently, seven Lahore-bound flights got diverted to different cities because a huge flock of birds was flying over Allama Iqbal International Airport.

The presence of the birds at the airport vicinity severely affects the flight operations.
