Earlier this year at the CES 2019 conference, LG teased a new AI aimed at improving customer care and, according to them, “changing our lives”.
Now a few days ahead of the IFA 2019 event, LG has announced the Proactive Customer Care service that can warn you about appliance problems before they occur. It will be available in Europe this year and will later be expanded to North America and Asia in 2020.
The new AI will not only warn users about potential appliance malfunctions but will also provide helpful tips on how to avoid these problems and extend the appliance’s performance and life. The AI will be embedded in LG’s ThinQ app and will monitor your appliances like washing machines and refrigerators over WiFi.
One specific example is that it can monitor the temperature levels in your freezer and will prompt you with a warning if it detects any abnormal fluctuations in the temperature.
Other than monitoring regular functions, it can also check if your appliances are installed properly and book technicians in advance. It is mostly aimed at appliances like TVs and refrigerators rather than smaller devices like smartphones and speakers.
Not much else is known about the AI just yet, so there are still concerns regarding user privacy and security as these devices usually need a lot of information to function properly. LG also hasn’t clarified how it will work with older devices but has hinted that new devices will have the AI pre-installed.
As mentioned before, the ThinQ based Proactive Customer Care service will arrive in Europe first and will later extend towards North America and Asia.
