It is becoming increasingly evident that former cricketers are not fond of the idea that Misbah-ul-Haq has been handed a dual-role by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
After Ramiz Raja and other former cricketers, Mohammad Yousuf has again criticized PCB and their decision to appoint Misbah.
Speaking to media, Yousuf said that Misbah was not appointed based on merit. He further added that giving him the dual-role will prove to be a huge negative in the longer run.
The head coach will be with the national team then how would he be able to watch first-class players with his own eyes? The chief selector will have to rule on the basis of scorecards or through what the provincial coaches feed him. So if provincial coaches have to do all the work then what was the need of a chief selector?
Questioning the appointment again, Yousuf said that on merit, there were more deserving people than Misbah for the job.
If this was the case, bowling coach Waqar Younis was a more qualified candidate for the head coaching gig. I am appalled that how could Waqar Younis settle for the bowling coach’s role when on merit he should have been the head coach and chief selector.
Yousuf also backed Mickey Arthur’s suggestion that Misbah-ul-Haq backstabbed him to get the head coach job.
Because he [Misbah] himself wanted the job, Misbah opposed the former coaching regime the most as a member of the committee. It is why I say that his appointment was not on merit.

May be all these reservations would right and logical as well, but my question is why these critics like yousuf shoaib sikandar bakht and others always avoid to apply for coaches or selection posts instead of doing very easy task like criticism….fail to understand really
Yousuf is no authority to comment on this. He dislikes Misbah since he was dropped for the T20 2007 and Misbah was selected in his place. He has severely criticised Misbah in the past. The backstabbing comment just shows its personal. It’s about time we Pakistanis learnt to avoid negativity. Our ex players have their own agendas so expect nothing constructive from them
i think misbah has a very balanced head and would ask pakistani players to apply themselves properly… good choice.
This is just Bs from you, everyone knows misbah couldn’t be selected in place of Yousuf, he had 5 years of cricket left in him yet he was dropped like he was never gonna get considered, don’t just blow out yousuf for his opinions, misbah had already damaged Pakistan’s cricket much that we wouldn’t be able to recover for decades and yet again he became the head coach, he’s gonna teach pakistan how to lose Odi’s his way
Arguments of Mohammad Yusuf are valuable and logical. However, lets give some time, at least 1 year to Misbah. He might improve the cricket structure. If he couldn’t deliver then other options can be exercised.
What if Yusuf would have been offered the same dual role???Would he still oppose???
