The Pakistani opener Abid Ali claims that he is ready to bat at any position to help the team’s cause and make life easier for the selection committee.
Picking up player of the match in the third ODI, Abid Ali made a strong case for his selection in the national team. He showcased supreme technique and a solid defense.
The right-handed batsman made 74 runs off just 67 deliveries and gave Pakistan a solid start to chase their biggest target in the past three years.
Speaking to the press after the match at National Stadium, Abid Ali expressed his opinion and said:
I can play at any position the team requires me to. This is good for the team that there’s a strong competition among openers as it encourages everyone to give their best which will be beneficial for the team.
It is worth mentioning that despite promising performances, Abid Ali was left out of the World Cup 2019 squad which was a huge disappointment for the player. Speaking about his exclusion, he said:
I try to remain positive when I’m not selected even despite performing as I believe everything happens for a good reason. When I go back, I watch the video of legends from different countries to help improve my game. Recently, I am following Misbahul Haq and Younis Khan.
He further added that he is the focus is to improve his game and work on his batting as much as possible.
Wicketkeeping is something I do as my hobby, but right now my total focus is on my batting and I’m working hard on it.
