Thanks to PTA’s tighter policies, things in Pakistan’s smartphone markets are changing. One of the major changes is that smartphones, including iPhones, will be imported via legal channels.
The news first surfaced four months ago but is only being implemented now. Mercantile Pacific, Singapore, a leading mobile phone distribution company, has been appointed as the official regional distributor in Pakistan and Afghanistan by Apple.
Mercantile Pacific has an ever-growing portfolio of customers, partners, and suppliers. To expand its network in Pakistan, the company has signed up with Airlink Communication.
Simon Mallitte, Mercantile Pacific’s Head of Global and Business Development, said:

Even though this will slightly increase the prices of Apple products in Pakistan due to the strict tax policies, users will get a full Apple product experience, which was lacking in Pakistan.
Three months ago, with the iOS 12.4 update, Apple officially launched facetime in Pakistan as well. The following phones are compatible.

- iPhone 7, 7 Plus
- iPhone 8, 8 Plus
- iPhone XR, Xs, Xs Max

Most of the companies make combined policies for Pakistan and Afghanistan. Later is not a big market so it just gets bundled with Pak. You will find many Pakistani regional heads also leading the Afghan division too. The policy definitely played a part but probably wasn’t the only reason.
