China Refutes Reports of 629 Pakistani Girls Being Sold to Chinese Individuals

The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad has categorically dismissed the American News Agency, Associated Press’ story regarding Pakistani brides being sold to Chinese nationals.

The comment has come just a day after the story was published. In its report, AP claimed to have obtained a list of 629 women and girls who were ‘sold’ to Chinese nationals in the name of marriage during the last couple of years.

It claimed that these brides in China were forced into prostitution, organ trading, and so on. Both, Chinese and Pakistani foreign ministries, had refused to comment, the report said.

However, on Thursday morning, the Chinese Embassy issued a statement, saying that it is the same old American propaganda that holds no truth.

We have noted the above-mentioned media report. It is the same old stuff and not true.

It said that the Chinese government supports transnational marriages and is ready to fight any crime that takes place under the banner of marriage.

The Chinese government will protect legitimate marriages and combat crimes. If any organization or individual commits a crime in Pakistan under the banner of transnational marriage, it must be duly punished.

The statement added that thanks to the joints efforts of both governments, the illegal marriage matching activity has been curbed, and reiterated that China will always support Pakistan in this regard.

The Chinese government had started an investigation into the scandal, soon after it was highlighted on media back in June this year, and found no proof against the claims of forced prostitution and organ trading.

The Chinese side also sent a task force to Pakistan to carry out law enforcement cooperation with the Pakistani side, which is proved to be very effective.

The statement also questioned the credibility and malicious intentions of the media organization, which published a baseless story without thorough investigation.

We will never allow a few criminals to undermine China-Pakistan friendship and hurt the friendly feelings between two peoples. We also hope that media reports should seek truth from facts.
