Nokia C1 is an Android Phone for The Masses

HMD Global has unveiled its recent Android 9 Go Edition smartphone called the Nokia C1. Specifications wise, the smartphone does not deviate a lot from Nokia 1 Plus launched in February this year.

For now, Nokia C1 is available in Kenya but will soon be available in Nigeria and other countries, including Pakistan.

Design and Display

Nokia C1 does not stand out in terms of design. It has an old school look with thick bezels and a plain back. However, considering that it is a Go edition phone, this seems justified. It is available in black and red colors.

Anyways, the device is built around a 5.45-inch IPS LCD with 480 x 960 resolution, with an 18:9 aspect ratio. At least the smartphone will have better viewing angles as compared to other phones with TFT displays.

As far as the screen protection is concerned, it comes with toughened glass for protection against scratches and breakages.

Internal and Storage

Under the hood, the Nokia C1 comes with an unnamed quad-core processor with cores clocked at 1.3GHz. The processor is topped with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB of expandable storage. Unfortunately, the smartphone is only compatible with a maximum of 64 GB SD cards.

On the software front, it runs on Android 9 Go Edition with dual SIM support. It lacks LTE connectivity and only supports Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n). However, since Go apps minimize data usage, slower connections won’t be a problem.

Cameras

Camera-wise, the Nokia C1 comes with a single 5 MP shooter at the back and a 5 MP sensor at the front. Thankfully, both the rear camera and the selfie camera come with a flash.

Battery and Pricing

This Go edition smartphone is powered by a 2500 mAh battery charged over the old-school MicroUSB port.

For now, the smartphone is only available in Kenya for $69 but it will be available in a number of African countries soon.
