Jinnah Airport Karachi Collected Rs 10.83 Billion During First Half of FY 2019-20

Model Customs Collectorate at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, has collected customs duty amounting to Rs. 10.836 billion. According to the details, the newly established collectorate achieved the target of Rs 10.254 billion, showing over 6 percent growth during the first half-year of the current fiscal year.

The collection was 25% higher than the corresponding period of FY 2017-18. During the period, the collectorate has seized goods including mobile phones, liquor/beer, diamonds, narcotics, and other items worth Rs. 202 million.

In addition, as per the directions of the FBR, the vigilance against the smuggling of currency was enhanced during the year and as a result foreign currency equal to Rs. 33 million was seized from various passengers.

It is worth mentioning that the government, through a presidential ordinance, has introduced Tax Laws (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2019 with major changes. The changes include an increase in penalties on cash smuggling.

Penalties have been increased considerably for smuggling foreign currency, precious stones, and jewelry under the ordinance.
