Sazgar Unveils Pakistan’s First Locally Manufactured Electric Vehicle

Yesterday, Sazgar Engineering Works Limited announced that they would be unveiling their indigenously manufactured Electric Powered Three-Wheeler.

In a glitzy ceremony attended by government officials, members of the social and business community, the company has launched the much-awaited three-wheeler.

The company has vowed to make the vehicle commercially available after the National Electric Vehicle Policy is implemented by the government. The company, during the launch, said that the vehicle would create employment opportunities in the auto sector and help in its development.

The three-wheeler is being manufactured locally and this will help in saving foreign exchange, help curb the oil import bill and reduce environmental pollution.

Apart from the electric kit, the rest of the three-wheeler is set to be produced locally which will help boost the economy. While some of the details are still scarce, the company has said that it will be powered by a 48V, 160Ah, 7.7kwh battery paired with a 3kw motor that will give it a range of 170KM with the weight included.

It will take almost 5 hours to charge and, according to some estimates, it will save Rs. 250,000 in terms of fuel and Rs. 30,000 in terms of maintenance each year.

  • It’s Good But Floop :
Due to 3, WHEELER AUTO User used most frequently roughly they do not want to wait some hour to charge them
Need to work on 4 WHEELER

    • Prediction Pehly Kar Deta ho : Baki Khud Dekh Lena BIKE Battery Bhi Market Catch na Kar Sakti Kaha tha na

  • I appreciate the product, but the charging time is going to make this a hard sell for everyone. 5 hours is a lot of time, especially when tech is available that can charge these batteries in 60 minutes or less. Why haven’t they used this tech?

    • I don’t know of any such tech. Even if it exists its too expensive for us third worlders. To those wondering about the time it takes to charge the answer is that you don’t do it during the day. You leave it to charge overnight just like your smartphone.

The main problem is the upfront cost, which is like going to be higher than an internal combustion engine based one, and the cost of replacement batteries down the line. Plus Pakistani consumers are extremely unimaginative and conservative. They will not buy something new. They are like sheep and follow the herd. That’s why we have only a dozen or so models of locally assembled cars in the country and everyone just buys one of those. They worry about the selling price before they buy it!

  • 5 hrs is ok for overnight charging. 170 km needs to be increased to 300 km+ per charge or the charging time reduced so a lunch time charge can be managed.

  • I’m pretty sure i’ve seen a few grey colored electric rickshaws already in Lahore in the past 2 years. How is this different? China had a good system where car batteries were easily accessible under back passenger seat, the cab pulled up at the company station and switched out depleted batteries for charged ones, took 5 mins max.

  • Please elaborate technical specs., Electric Kit Lithium Ion battery brand/origin QC from source brand/country of Origin, Life Cycle of battery, warranty period/replacement/repair if defective during warranty, cost of maintenance/replacement during maintenance period.
Which Chinese group international supplying batteries to Germany/EU compliant brand. What is the cost of battery if stolen, or failed. Range of KM on single charge with Stop/GO Traffic.
Is the battery rated per standards of the EU., for exports to the EU/Rest of the World.

    • They haven’t even given us the price of the product. We cannot expect them to share all these details. The illiterate three wheeler drivers who are their target consumers won’t even know what to make of them!

  • Estimated yearly saving is 250000, mean 21000 monthly. What the fuck is that? Average three wheeler engine is 200cc and fuel average is 25km/kg on lpg(mostly riksha runs on lpg and normal rate of lpg is 100 except winter) , if daily km driven is 160km then monthly fuel consumption is 192 Kg mean 20000 monthly.

Lets calculate electricity cost: battery capacity is 7.7 kwh, it means total 7.7 units consumed ideally to completely charge the battery but loss of electricity in conversion is occur so we assume 8.5 units. Commercial rate of each unit is approximately 28 rupees including tax so monthly consumption of electricity is 7140.

    Difference is 150k not 250k

  • Illiterate three wheeler drivers are the last people to adopt risky new technology. This is a fail all around.
