Honor Launches Smart 4K & 8K TVs For Cheap

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor stepped into the smart TV market last year as an affordable alternative to Huawei’s flagship smart TVs. The brand has now launched an entirely new series called the Honor X1 which is meant to rival other affordable TVs in the market including Redmi, Realme, and others.

The new X1 lineup comes in three different sizes including 50″, 55″, and 65″. The TVs come with either 4K displays or, unexpectedly for budget TVs, 8K options as well. The TVs feature a near bezel-less panel with a screen to body ratio of around 92%. They all have textured designs and a large Honor logo at the back.

The displays have support for 92% DCI-P3 wide color gamut and an AI magic image quality engine to reduce noise. They also have support for MEMC motion compensation technology for real-time dynamic picture compensation and DC dimming to reduce eye strain.

As for audio, the TVs pack a set of four 10W speakers and two separate 0.5L sound chambers which aim to deliver theater-level surround sound. Additionally, there is Huawei’s Histen audio processing algorithm, a 31 segment equalizer sound adjustment system, and a large 1L sound cavity for enhanced audio quality.

Internal specifications include the Honghu 818 SoC and a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU that can decode 4K and 8K videos at 30 FPS. The TVs have 16GB storage and 2GB RAM on-board but there are likely going to be more memory variants.

On the software side, the TV boots Hongmeng OS 1.0 that can work as an IoT center with support for more than 50 million smart home products. Support for one-touch smart projection is also present which allows casting smartphone content directly onto the larger display.

The Honor X1 Smart TV will go on sale in China on May 25 and the pricing for the three models is as follows:

  • Honor X1 65-inches: $464
  • Honor X1 55-inches: $323
  • Honor X1 50-inches: N/A
