PU Announces to Reduce Fees, Students Demand Reimbursement

Since the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent closure of universities, students all over Pakistan have been demanding semester fees to be waived off as regular classes are suspended along with promotion to the next semester without examinations and suspension of online classes.

Now, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Punjab University, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, has announced to waive off all fees except for the tuition fee until the government allows the resumption of classes from the campus.

A student at the Hailey College of Banking and Finance, Punjab University, who asked not to be named, has said:

No online classes are being conducted at the moment. Online classes started in March and were called off in May. Now we have holidays until August. Some students have already paid their semester fees while some haven’t. There is a bit of confusion regarding the implementation of the fee concession announced recently. If the university is going to apply the fee waiver equally to all students for this semester, it must reimburse the fees, barring tuition fees, of students who have already paid.
