Kamran Akmal Questions PM Imran About the State of Cricket in Pakistan

Wicket-keeper batsman, Kamran Akmal, has requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to question PCB Chairman, Ehsan Mani’s performance. The 38-year-old said that the country’s cricket is in poor shape and Imran Khan needs to ask this from Mani.

He also urged the PCB Chairman to inquire why the teams are picked on personal likes and dislikes.

Kamran Akmal lashed out at the selection policy because his name wasn’t included in the extended squad of 29 players for England tour. Akmal has been a prolific run-scorer in domestic tournaments including the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Many argue that he is still the best wicket-keeper batsman in the country and deserves a chance even solely as a top-order batsman in the shortest format.

In an interview with a local sports channel, Akmal said that this treatment by the selectors in the past is known to all.

I am not getting a chance despite my performance. The way I have been treated over the last five years is no secret. The previous selection committee did not pick teams on merit. Performances were sidelined and the sole selection criteria back then was personal likeness. The people in coaching and management set up over the last five-six years have hurt our cricket.

Akmal expressed hope that Misbah-ul-Haq will notice his performance because he values it. Talking about the other wicket-keepers, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan, he said that if they are great batsmen, there’s no issue in slotting them all in the same XI.
