Pakistan’s Tour to South Africa Gets Postponed

The coronavirus pandemic and the Indian Premier League (IPL) have resulted in the cancellation of a number of bilateral series and other cricket events including the T20 World Cup. This time around, it’s the Pakistan-South Africa series that has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three ODIs and as many T20Is were originally scheduled in October, however, Cricket South Africa has postponed the series because the COVID-19 threat has not eased. CSA has also informed the PCB that organizing matches in a bio-secure bubble isn’t feasible and the two boards are looking for possible windows to play the series.

South Africa’s tour to Pakistan is scheduled for 2021 and it is highly likely that the Proteas will now host the Men in Green in February-March next year.

The three ODIs will be part of a direct qualification campaign for the ODI World Cup 2023. ICC has announced a new Super League to ‘bring relevance and context to ODI cricket over the next three years, as the qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is at stake’.

The top 7 teams plus the hosts India will directly qualify for the mega event in 2023.
