Toyota is Bringing the New Corolla Cross in Pakistan

Reports have surfaced that Indus Motor Company (IMC) is planning to launch the brand new variant of Toyota Corolla in the Pakistani market. The car would be the Toyota Corolla Cross, a compact crossover SUV and it will directly compete with the likes of Honda Vezel, HR-V, and the Toyota C-HR.

The news was revealed in a briefing by IMC, where officials stated that they will be introducing the Corolla Cross in Pakistan and that it will be a Complete Built-up Unit (CBU) brought in from Thailand.

Measurements

The SUV is 4,460 mm in overall length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,620 mm tall, with a wheelbase length of 2,640 mm. The normal variant weighs in at 1,325 kg whereas the hybrid variant adds another 60 kg to the weight, perhaps due to the battery.

In terms of dimensions, the car is interestingly not all too different from the sedan version that is currently being offered in the market.

Styling

The Corolla Cross looks like the baby version of the off-road mid and full-sized SUVs in Toyota’s lineup. The SUV borrows the front bumper and grille design from the new Hilux, the headlight design from the Fortuner, and the rest of the silhouette and the side profile from the RAV-4. On the side, you also get 17″ or 18″ alloy rims, depending on the variant that you opt for.

The rear-design is also borrowed from the RAV-4, with a sloping rear windshield, sharp and angular LED taillights, an edgy rear bumper design with a couple of reflectors, and a scuff plate-like silver trim piece in the middle of the black trim that surrounds the entire vehicle.

The rear also features a ducktail spoiler and a shark-fin antenna to make the vehicle look premium and sporty. Overall, the design makes for a fairly stylish crossover SUV.

Performance

In all the markets where it’s been launched, the Corolla Cross is equipped with two versions of the company’s 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine. One is a standard, naturally aspirated, petrol-powered engine that generates 140 horsepower and 175 Newton Meters of torque.

The other one is a hybrid engine that generates 98 horsepower and 142 Nm of Torque. However, the hybrid assist bumps that power figure up by a significant margin, as the electric motor makes an additional 72 horsepower and 163 Nm torque.

Both engines are mated to a 7 speed CVT automatic gearbox. The Corolla Cross, despite being an “SUV” is going to be offered with a Front Wheel Drive power-train only.

Specs & Features

All Corolla Cross variants are likely to have features such as seven airbags, rear-seat air vents, 9.0-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a proximity key with push-button start, and reclining rear seats.

The finer variants are likely to have additional features such as LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, extra exterior brightwork, inbuilt navigation, leather seats with the front ones being power-adjustable and heated, a sunroof, bigger 7.0-inch instrument display, 18-inch alloys, ambient interior illumination, auto-dimming interior mirror, and a power tailgate.

Other functional features include driver aids such as hill-start brake assist, lane departure warning with steering assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, road sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, and 360-degree camera among a few others. Most of these features are offered or excluded based on the automotive safety and quality protocols of a particular region.

Price

There are no official figures as of yet, but, given that it is going to be a CBU, it will be valued somewhere between Rs. 5.5 million and Rs. 6.5 million. However, a report by Pakwheels also warns of possible fraudulent parties claiming that the advance booking has begun at the rate of Rs. 1.5 million as down payment, with the total price of the vehicle being Rs. 6.8 million.

Under any such development, Toyota IMC itself will make the official revelation that would be hard to miss. Therefore, until an official statement comes along, it’d be best to remain patient.
