Breaking: TikTok is Banned in Pakistan!

We are getting reports that TikTok is being banned in Pakistan as the popular social app is currently inaccessible in the country.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, which recently mandated to police social media, has confirmed to ProPakistani that the app has been blocked in the country.

In a statement issued moments ago, PTA said:

In view of the number of complaints from different segments of the society against immoral/indecent content on the video-sharing application TikTok, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued instructions for blocking the application.

Keeping in view the complaints and nature of the content being consistently posted on TikTok, PTA issued a final notice to the application and gave considerable time to respond and comply with the instructions for the development of an effective mechanism for proactive moderation of unlawful online content.

However, the application failed to fully comply with the instructions, therefore, directions were issued for blocking of TikTok application in the country.

TikTok had 20 million monthly active users in Pakistan, till July 2020

TikTok has been informed that the Authority is open for engagement and will review its decision subject to a satisfactory mechanism by TikTok to moderate unlawful content. TikTok had earlier ensured the government of sophisticated and systematic processes that are in place to block indecent content.

Lately, however, it is seen that criminal elements started using TikTok to spread fear among the community. In one instance, a TikTok user was seen threatening a police officer openly.

In other cases, TikTok was blamed for at least one person commuting suicide. Prime Minister Imran Khan, had recently said that TikTok is harming the community and it must be blocked.

    • Sir my Bhai Khan. Imran Khan is leading from the front. PTI and Imran Khan are the best thing happened to Pakistan. They exactly know the sentiments of Pakistani people. I hope other dating and social media apps will be banned to protect Pakistanis from the evils of the modern world.

  • This will affect lifehood of youth earning from it.Moreover this will severe ties with china.

    • What youth earning? You know that you can’t monetize videos on TikTok like you can do on Youtube. The only way to start earning is getting huge subscribers to follow you first and we exactly know how it is done and folllowing the influencer path as you do on instagram. So only Tiktok and only Tiktok earns with the google mobile ads system platform. You just make a fool out of yourself.

Youth must learn skills which later can offered at fee in Pakistan or the outside world. Making @#% videos on TIKTOK isn’t a skill though.

And you are too naive to think that a single app could literally destroy Pak-China relationship. They need warm water access and they can do anything for that.

I support this decision made by government and further expect government to remove more apps Chinese or not. Worthy mentions Likee, bigo live and more. LETS STOP SPREADING THE CANCER.
