PTA Issues New Warning to TikTok to Block Indecent/Immoral Content

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asked TikTok platform to immediately block vulgar, indecent, immoral, nude content for viewership in Pakistan, said a statement issued by the regulator.

PTA said that its latest warning was issued while in view the negative effects of indecent/immoral/nude content available on the platform.

This is not the first time that PTA has issued warning to TikTok. In fact PTA had demanded the company to block the indecent content just few week ago.

PTA said that it has approached TikTok to immediately ensure blocking of objectionable content and to prevent the usage of its platform for disseminating illegal content.

In addition, the platform has been directed to put in place an effective content monitoring and moderation mechanism to proactively remove Indecent/immoral content failing which necessary action will be taken under the law.

PTA didn’t say anything if TikTok is unable to comply with the demands.

It maybe recalled that TikTok had replied to PTA’s earlier warning and said that its doing everything possible to comply with PTA’s guidelines. TikTok had said that it deploys a combination of technologies and moderation strategies to detect and review problematic content that violates our terms of use and comprehensive Community Guidelines and implement appropriate penalties, including removing videos and banning accounts.
