OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei is Leaving to Start His Own Venture: Report

OnePlus, founded in 2013, got traction quickly in the smartphone industry because of its high-end yet reasonable smartphones and aggressive marketing tactics courtesy of its co-founder and Marketing Director Carl Pei.

Over the years, Pei has been the face of OnePlus in the west thanks to his fluent English and the experience he gained during his time in Oppo. His and Pete Lau’s, CEO of OnePlus, efforts to make the company one of the most renowned smartphone OEMs, are globally recognized.

However, to our surprise, Pei has left the company to start another venture of his own. The news comes via TechCrunch, citing two sources familiar with the matter. Although OnePlus is yet to acknowledge Pei’s exit from the company, this alleged internal memo sent to OnePlus’ staff confirms the news. The memo surfaced on Reddit a few days ago.

The text lists the company’s leadership, and Pei is missing. It also states that Emily Dai – who’s currently the head of OnePlus India – has been appointed as the head of the Nord lineup and will report to Lau. For those who don’t know, Pei was previously in charge of the Nord series.

This news came just ahead of the Oneplus 8T launch event. Pei is probably waiting for the launch before he makes the news of his departure official.
