Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Jiaxing, a city of China’s Zhejiang province, has been giving Sinovac Biotech’s candidate COVID-19 vaccine to frontline healthcare workers and other high-risk groups under the national emergency program that was launched in July.
According to the official statement from the Jiaxing’s CDC, Sinovac Biotech’s experimental vaccine, called CoronaVac, is a two-dose vaccine, which costs $30 per dose.

Jiaxing’s CDC did not comment on whether the $60 price includes subsidies from the Chinese government.
An Indonesian state-owned vaccine manufacturer, Bio Farma, which recently signed a deal with Sinovac Biotech for 40 million doses of CoronaVac, has confirmed that the vaccine will be available for $27 in the country.
Last month, China’s CDC had revealed that 4 Coronavirus vaccines developed in China were being evaluated in phase-III clinical trials.
However, it also declined to disclose the pricing details for the Coronavirus vaccines.

Sinovac Biotech’s CoronaVac is one of these four vaccines as the company has said that interim results of the phase-III trials will be published in November.
Time and again, the Chinese government has reiterated that while medical firms are allowed to make reasonable profits, Coronavirus vaccines will be priced close to manufacturing cost.
Earlier this year in July, the US government had fixed the price of the two-dose Coronavirus vaccine developed by the New York-based Pfizer and German BioNTech at $40.
