These are the Richest Senators in Pakistan in 2020

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the wealth details of the serving senators on Monday. The data revealed independent Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi to be the richest among all Senate members with his assets valuing Rs. 1.27 billion out of which Rs. 167.1 million are outside Pakistan.

The assets details disclosed that Senate Chairman, Sadiq Sanjrani, has assets worth Rs. 106.3 million which include properties in Pakistan worth Rs. 55 million and four vehicles.

ECP’s wealth details for senators for the fiscal year 2019-20 showed that the Deputy Chairman, Saleem Mandviwalla’s reported assets are worth Rs. 67.7 million.

Leader of the House in Senate, Dr. Shahzad Waseem’s assets were valued at Rs. 202.1 million, while his wife’s assets stood at Rs. 172.3 million.

Federal Minister for Narcotics Control, Azam Khan Swati, Federal Law Minister, Farogh Naseem, and Federal Minister for Information, Shibli Faraz, have assets worth Rs. 810.12 million, Rs. 399.6 million, and Rs. 46.7 million, respectively.

According to the data, Senator Faisal Javed Khan has assets worth Rs. 10 million, whereas Leader of the Opposition, Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, does not own any assets and has only Rs. 50,000 in his bank accounts. Another Senator with no registered assets to his name is Pakistan Muslim League-N’s Pervaiz Rashid. However, his bank accounts contain assets north of Rs. 3 million.

Among Senators with significant properties outside Pakistan is Rehman Malik with foreign assets worth 1.3 million pounds.

Under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017, lawmakers are required to submit their wealth details every year, along with the assets and liabilities of their spouses and dependent children. Every year, the ECP makes these details public.
