New Railway Project Will Reduce Karachi-Lahore Journey to Just 7 Hours

Prime Minister Imran Khan released a statement earlier today, stating that the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway project will facilitate train passengers to travel from Karachi to Lahore and vice versa in just seven hours.

During his address at the inauguration, the Premier informed that with an investment of $6 billion, this project is, by far, the biggest project in the history of the country’s railway sector.

The Main Line-1 project is a part of the China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) railway sector development, and from an investment standpoint, the biggest ever railway project in Pakistan to date. While the ML-1 track runs from Karachi to Peshawar, the other railway project proposals that are part of the major railway sector development include:

  • A 1,328 km line from Jacobabad and Quetta to Gwadar at a cost of $4.5 billion that will connect Gwadar to China.
  • A 130 km line from Karachi to Hyderabad.
  • A 560 km line from Quetta to Kotla Jam on the Main Line-2.
  • A 65 km line from Peshawar to Torkham, Afghanistan.
  • A 128 km line from Quetta to Chaman.
  • A 285 km line from Nowshera and Dargai to Swat.
  • The development of the Karachi Circular Railway (to be operational soon).

Imran Khan further stated that the railway sector is pivotal in terms of the national welfare of Pakistan. He revealed that the government has spent Rs. 300 million on the reconstruction and renovation of the Hassan Abdal Railway Station which had been neglected for 127 years. Furthermore, he added that the railway station has been upgraded to two floors and now has a decent canteen and a clean water supply.

The Prime Minister also remarked that travel and tourism are one of the biggest missed opportunities in Pakistan and with the restoration of the tourism sector, the country will accomplish wonders. “If we work on tourism, there will be no need to seek loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF),” he said.

  • Oh koi is Clown ko samjhaoo hum to Huns Huns ke thak gai hein, aur yeh humain Rulanay ka kehta raha, is ka slogan hona chahiye MEIN KO HUNSAON GA…………ha ha ha

  • So its Kosher when Imm the Dimm Does it but boy oh boy when someone else initiates these projects, leave it To Y-o-u-t-h-i-y-a-s to prove it as a debt-trap rather than an investment in future

  • I am happy for these developments in Pakistan. When shall we get to see bullet trains in Pakistan.

  • Railway should developed just like motorway Phase by Phase. You don’t build a 2000 Kilometer Motorway you build it in phases which are connected by interchange’s. Railway should also develop itself incrementally one by one.

    • An average speed of just 170km/h will do the trick (1200 km distance) which is not that difficult on new railway line.

  • Its really ironic when people judge Imran Khan on 2 years neglecting the whitewash of 30 years. Seeds sown today will really start to bring fruits in 5 or more years.
