Samsung is Building a 600MP Camera for Smartphones

Samsung’s ISOCELL tech for camera sensors is one of the best in the market as of now. According to the latest leak, the South Korean company is working on a 600 MP camera sensor based on the technology.

This leak was announced by Ice Universe, who is known for his excellent track record, and the news is accompanied by a slide from the company’s internal document or presentation.

According to the image, one of the main reasons Samsung is working on such a high-capacity camera sensor is that 4K and 8K video recording is becoming mainstream. The company plans on capitalizing on this with a bigger sensor, which allows for zoomed videos without compromising too much quality.

However, it will be long before the sensor is seen on commercial products. Reportedly, the company still has to solve the issue with the camera bump first. A sensor with a 1/0.57-inch size will take roughly 12% of the phone’s back panel and will protrude about 22mm.

Currently, the company’s highest-capacity imaging sensor commercially available is the 1/1.33” HM1 sensor with 108 MP imaging capacity. Moreover, the company is reportedly working on a 144 MP camera sensor for smartphones as well.
