Govt to Devise a Strategy to Check Drug Abuse Among Youth

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan announced on Monday that considering there are over seven million drug addicts in Pakistan, his government will devise a strategy to test the youth for drug abuse.

While addressing an event held at the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) headquarters in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, PM Khan announced, “The Anti-Narcotics Force and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) alone cannot curb the use of narcotics and corruption. Therefore, the whole nation and the government will have to make collective efforts to fight the menace”.

The PM also said that the concerned ministries will be taken on board to devise a policy to check for drug abuse among the youth.

He called corruption and narcotics the “cancer of society”, adding, “I will call a meeting next week to discuss the ways to address the challenge of narcotics on an urgent basis, and the government will run an anti-drug campaign across the country, and the entire nation will fight this menace as a united force”.

PM Khan also stated that the IG-Islamabad Police had informed him of the alarming situation of the use of the drug called ‘ice’ use by students, and declared, “We have to save our children and youth from this silent killer’”.

For this, he emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the devastating consequences of drugs among the public and particularly youngsters.
