In light of Lahore’s increasing population and numerous urban issues, the government has decided to bifurcate the district of Lahore into City and Saddar districts. Accordingly, five new tehsils will be created in the two proposed districts.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore has been directed to prepare a PC-2 to conduct an impact assessment study for geographic and social/cultural cohesion. Consultancy services will be hired for this purpose under the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority Rules to ensure that the historic charter of the city remains intact during the division.

The minutes of a meeting held on 3 December under the chairmanship of the Senior Member of the Board of Revenue, Babar Hayat Tarar stated:
“The participants were apprised that the meeting of the technical group had convened to discuss the progress upon the implementation of the decision taken during the meeting of the technical group held on Nov 26, 2020. The Lahore DC explained that the proposal of the creation of two new administrative districts, namely Lahore City and Lahore Saddar, in the present Lahore city district has been discussed with the Sheikhupura DC and further rationalized”.

A bad time to come in the history of Pakistan when powerful and powerless people of the Lahore city will be divided. A new Lahore will be provided with all the facilities where as the actual Lahore suffer with load shedding, gas shortage and water shortage. The new Lahore will facilitate its residence with all the utilities they can capture from older Lahore. I dnt think I disclose who will be the elite residence of this elite new Lahore but its not even difficult to know who that will be. You can see nowadays LDA is very active rapidly declaring many housings societies illegal.. The actual reason behind this is new Lahore project. The govt very cleverly declaring housing schemes illegal so that they don’t have to compensate poor people rather take over all the land ravi to shekhupura declaring them illegal. Unfortunately there is no one who can come and make this country heaven. Looter after loiter and corrupt after corrupt is the fate of this dear country. Big man saving the big man
Yes you’re right. I grew up in Mozang and moved to Lake City last year. Instead of preserving and making the old city better we destroyed it and whenever I still visit my old house I feel sad for the people who still have to live in such poor condition the Air in those areas is extremely toxic.
And the worst part it people living in those areas can’t afford to buy a house in new societies because the DC rate in most old areas such as mozang is 9-10 lac and the worst part is most of the houses and building in those areas are 50-70 years old so they so people only get paid for the land not the building while an average 3, marla house in a new housing scheme costs 35-40 lac and then most of these societies are on outskirts which makes traveling a nightmare for people who cant afford a car
Ah yes, certain doom entails any form of change and decent planning/structuring of one of the most populated cities on the planet. Strange how people look up to the all-good “Goray”, but when any of their policies are applied in reality, their haplessly conservative and utterly pessimistic perspective of life shines through the cracks of their progressive façade. In case you haven’t noticed, the two sides of the city entails a) equal “elite” areas and b) a side of the city already built and developed, only in need of (albeit, desperate) maintenance and repair, and a side of the city that is still under development.
How do you bog through life with such a pessimistic view of reality? Such a twisted view of object facts?
What a clueless comment from probably someone who knows nothing about urban planning
Dividing a large metropolitan area into more manageable districts is a time tested way to improve efficiency
.no “new” Lahore is being built
I think you have half a brain
How cheep you think, that the facilities of Lahore city will be divided to sadar Lahore. Use your brain it will also facilitate all population every thing that you have know. due to population increase it difficult to manage and facilitate all services to all the population. be positive hope for the best i think its good decision
Such a useless and destruction idea from a CHIEF MINISTER who is anti Lahore and from useless govt who cant do anything but destruction. Armed forces must stop it.
Strange, they will bifurcate Lahore and not Punjab.
I was born inside Akbari Gate of the old walled city. My family moved out to Sant Nagar, then to Krishan Nagar (Posh areas of that time where a large ground known as ‘Nehru Park’ existed. Not sure if still exists. We have since been moving away & away from my ‘Real Lahore’ to Samanabad, to Faisal Town, to Township, to Wapda Town to Raiwind Road. Today, we are closer to Qasur than to Lahore itself. Our rulers never looked beyond their nose. For them Punjab has been Lahore only. Trillions of Rupees have been spent on the expansion of this city. I feel ashamed when I visit Qasur, Sheikhpura, Gujrat, Sialkot, Sargodha’ DG Khan and Bahawalpur and even for that matter Muitan & Sahiwal.
Will the Punjab govt. stop spending on my birthplace and divert resources to other under-developed areas of Punjab?
It may be good decision but may not be, because when any new thing construct or build the importance give to that, but there is no new construction Lahore already exist now only it divide into two parts which will take equal importance. The decision of government to divide the city into two parts on the foundation of betterment of city. Due to very vast area and increasing population create difficulties to manage the administrative duties. I think it is necessary to betterment of Lahore and there people.
