BRT Peshawar Grows in Popularity Despite COVID-19

A spokesperson for TransPeshawar told the media yesterday that over 130,000 passengers use the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service every day, and more than 8 million people have used it since its launch.

The spokesperson added that the number of people that have been using the service despite the pandemic is remarkable and that they have great faith in it.

He said that since the commencement of the service, over 600,000 Zu cards had been distributed among its users, of which 400,000 had been distributed for free.

The spokesperson also remarked that the Zu smartphone application is in its final stages of development and will be launched soon to offer more facilities to the customers.

The spokesperson stated that the BRT service operates 16 hours a day from 6 AM to 10 PM, with a headway timing of 2 to 4 minutes, adding that it has an economical fare of Rs. 10 for the first 5 kilometers and an additional Rs. 5 for every other 5 kilometers.

He affirmed that the management is ensuring abidance with the COVID-19 SOPs both within the buses and at the stations to prevent the risk of massive virus contraction.

As per the recent reports, TransPeshawar has instructed its staff that legal action will be taken against those who disregard the SOPs. Despite a shaky start and a few breakouts of fire that had resulted in significant negative attention, TransPeshawar service has evidently caught on with the residents of the provincial capital.
