Lahore Reports a Huge Increase in Online Financial Crimes

Hundreds of people in Lahore were robbed of millions of rupees in online financial crime this year, as revealed by official data.

According to a report by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the provincial capital saw an 85 percent increase in financial crimes as compared to the previous years.

This year, it received 1,350 complaints of online fraud from Lahore alone, which included bank transfer scams through fake calls, thefts through mobile bank accounts, and 135 ATM fraud cases.

The previous year had a record of less than 200 financial crime cases among a large number of complaints about cybercrime.

In 2019, the FIA had received more than 15,500 cases of cybercrime, 50 cases of physical harassment, and 1500 complaints about the uploading of inappropriate content on social media platforms.
