Govt Takes Action Against Officials Responsible for Nationwide Blackout

The Central Power General Company Limited (GENCO-II) has completed its forensic inquiry into the nationwide power breakdown that plunged the entire country into the dark on Saturday night. According to the report, the Deputy Director of Electrical Switchyard at Guddu Thermal Station, Syed Faiq Hussain, is responsible for the incident.

The CCTV footage revealed that the Deputy Director of the 600-megawatt power plant had left the premises and returned in the darkness after the breakdown. The official had continued to pretend as if he had been present at the power plant at the time of the crisis but the footage showed him to have returned after the breakdown, indicating criminal negligence on his part.

On the recommendation of the inquiry committee, the Chief Executive Guddu Thermal Power Station, Hamad Amir Hashmi, has suspended the Deputy Director. Additionally, the forensic report has been forwarded to the Ministry of Energy.

Earlier on Sunday, the committee had suspended seven on-duty officers and personnel of the power plant after a preliminary investigation. The initial report had revealed that the nationwide power breakdown had been caused by incorrect switching in the old unit of the power plant.
