LG Teases a Rollable Display Phone at CES 2021

LG has been working on rollable displays for a while now. In October last year, the company launched its first commercial rollable TV for $87000 and started teasing a smartphone with a rollable display that can double the screen size when unrolled. After months of leaks and rumors, the company has again teased its smartphone with a rollable display at the CES 2021.

Unfortunately, LG has once again kept all the fine details to itself. We don’t know when the smartphone will break covers and what features will it come with. However, experts believe that the device will make an appearance later this year.

The LG Rollable was originally teased during the launch of the LG Wing and at the time, the company revealed that it was set to launch in March 2021. Although information regarding the said device was scarce, LetsGoDigital came up with concept renders based on an old patent by the company.

From what the patent explains, the phone will have an extendable frame that can expand the display once it’s pulled out. The OLED display can be extended nearly twice its original size and you can also roll out the screen from one side individually. The display will automatically adjust its orientation based on its current form. Users will also have the option to unroll it halfway as well. The patent application also hints that the handset may support a stylus.
