Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has granted Emergency Use Approval (EUA) to the second COVID-19 vaccine to be used in emergencies across the country.
According to details, DRAP has approved the coronavirus vaccine developed by the state-owned firm China National Pharmaceutical Group known as Sinopharm for emergency use in the country.
Last week, DRAP had given EUA to the COVID-19 vaccine made by AstraZeneca, a British pharmaceutical company, in collaboration with Oxford University.
A spokesperson for DRAP has said that the regulator has approved two coronavirus vaccines for emergency use across the country after determining their safety and efficacy.
In a recent interview, Dr. Faisal Sultan, SAPM on Health, noted that Pakistan has neither placed any final order yet for the procurement of coronavirus vaccine nor any vaccine manufacturer has accepted the country’s request for supplying the vaccine.
Dr. Faisal said that Pakistan will soon procure different COVID-19 vaccines both directly and through the COVAX facility.
Similarly, Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Planning, revealed that the government has approved the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccine to be scheduled for immediate deployment in the country by March 2021.
