Laptop shipments took a downturn back in 2016, where only 156.8 million units were shipped throughout the year, which was a slow decline over the past years. In 2020, however, laptops are in high demand once again, reaching total sales of 235.1 million units, no doubt caused by the pandemic.

Just as expected, with a vast amount of people working and studying from home, the demand for laptops surged in 2020, which led to a 26% increase in shipments. Once again, Lenovo was the biggest laptop maker with 72.7 million sales, followed by HP and Dell with 67.6 million and 50.3 million sales respectively.
Likewise, the total revenue generated also showed healthy growth during the year. The revenue figure grew to reach $140.3 billion in 2020, up by $4.6 billion compared to last year. The numbers are expected to grow once again this year and predicted figures are somewhere around $142.1 billion. The US will continue to be the biggest market for laptops, followed in by China and Japan.
The US is expected to generate a revenue of $36.1 billion, whereas China and Japan are expected to bring in $19.6 billion and $9.8 billion respectively.
Going forward, Lenovo is expected to maintain its lead, but with HP and Dell getting closer next year.
