Pakistan Makes a Huge Leap in ICC Test Rankings After Sweeping South Africa

Pakistan has snatched the 5th position from South Africa in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings after wrapping up the series 2-0. Pakistan is now ranked number five in Test team rankings overtaking Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Pakistan won the second Test match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium convincingly by 95 runs and whitewashed the Proteas in the historic series. This was Pakistan’s first Test series win against South Africa in 17 years.

Hasan Ali in his comeback Test series bowled brilliantly and picked up a 10-wicket haul in the second Test match. After a solid comeback by South Africa in the fourth innings, Hasan and Shaheen staged their own comeback and wrapped up the South African batting unit after taking the second new ball.

Shaheen Afridi picked up 4 and Hasan picked up 5 wickets in the fourth innings to hand Pakistan a comfortable series win.

Mohammad Rizwan scored a brilliant century in the third innings to set a formidable target for South Africa, which they ultimately failed to chase down.

Pakistan bounced back after a disappointing tour of New Zealand, where they lost the Test series by 2-0 and prior to that they lost the Test series against England 1-0. Pakistan will jump up the rankings and have 90 rating points, 18 behind fourth-placed England.
