Punjab Police Bans Selfies in Uniform and Use of Social Media

Punjab Police has issued new orders for its officers that include a ban on sharing pictures of themselves in uniform on all social media. The new guidelines are particularly aimed at preserving the public image of the force.

The decision was made after the Inspector General Punjab (IGP) reviewed public feedback pertaining to his officers’ presence on social media platforms.

The notification directs all the officers to disengage themselves from social media groups. It also bans the creation of social media groups and the sharing of content and related opinions by the officers, adding that they are not allowed to attend private events and gatherings in uniform.

Furthermore, only the Superintendent Police (SP) officers are allowed to release statements via online channels.

Any officer found in violation of the new rules will have strict action taken against them. The authorities will also reserve the right to suspend the violaters without pay, and relieve them of their duties in the case of repeated violations.
