APCNGA Praises Govt for Opening LNG Sector to Revive CNG Industry

The Head of the All Pakistan Compressed Natural Gas Association (APCNGA), Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, recently commended the government’s initiative of opening up the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) sector for private distributors, stating that the step will enable a complete revival of the CNG sector of Pakistan.

Paracha added that the date for the private LNG import, primarily for CNG stations, will be declared within a few weeks, and affirmed that there will be a significant drop in environmental pollution and public transport charges with the promotion of the CNG industry.

He predicted an inflow of Rs. 400 billion worth of investment in the sector, adding that numerous parties will be interested in introducing the latest CNG equipment within the next five years and that 800,000 jobs will be created for the public in the industry.

Paracha revealed the plans to introduce the latest CNG kits, stating that the new systems will enable at least 15 percent extra mileage for vehicles. He added that the kits are currently undergoing a test phase.

He explained that the new kits are specially designed to work efficiently with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) engines to allow for better fuel efficiency and power delivery as compared to other fuels.

“Setting of this equipment in vehicles will be performed through a mobile app and there will be no need of going to any workshop,” he said.

As per a media report, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had recently issued marketing licenses to the Tabeer and Energas companies for the first time ever to allow them to perform the regulated activity of selling natural gas and LNG. The licenses allow the companies to do so for an initial period of 10 years.

Furthermore, the OGRA has granted ‘provisional licenses’ to LNG Easy (Pvt.) Ltd. and Daewoo Gas Private Ltd. to undertake the LNG virtual pipeline project for the supply of gas via cryogenic bowsers.

The report added that the development will enable a healthy competitive environment within the sector, in addition to allowing investment opportunities to numerous business owners, thus creating jobs and making a positive overall contribution to the economy and the environment.
