MG Responds to News Claiming It Has Lost Several EVs in an Accident

MG Pakistan has reportedly lost seven of its SUVs in a car carrier accident that occurred near Daulatpur, Sindh, last week.

Images shared on social media show a car carrier toppled over on the roadside. The carrier had been transporting the MG SUVs and some other vehicles.

Some media reports suggest that there had been 12 electric vehicles (EVs) aboard the car carrier, but a social media update on the automaker’s official page has refuted the news saying that seven of its gasoline-fuelled vehicles had been on the carrier.

The images of the incident also affirm the automaker’s claims as most of the damaged vehicles seem to be MG HS SUVs.

MG currently has only two cars in its lineup for Pakistan — the HS and the non-EV variant of the ZS. The former costs Rs. 5.5 million, and the latter is priced at Rs. 4.1 million. Given these prices and the fact that MG has lost seven of either one of the SUVs indicates a huge loss for the automaker.

Additionally, the unfortunate accident warrants the vigilance of MG buyers as there is a possibility of some private parties picking up the damaged vehicles as scrap, refurbishing them, and selling them at the price of new ones.

  • MG must note the VINs of all the vehicles it lost in this crash and make them public. That way if some one does try to buy these damaged vehicles as scrap, repairs them and tries to sell them (as new), they will not be able to do so.

  • I hope the cars were insured for delivery. If not, its about time that we encourage getting insurance on almost everything. This will limit the losses for the general public and the businesses and also boom the insurance industry in Pakistan.
