Microsoft has started testing browser support for its xCloud gaming service and plans to launch it soon. The news comes from sources familiar with Microsoft’s Xbox gaming services and they claim that the company is testing browser access before a public preview.
This should allow players to access xCloud through their web browsers and easily open them through their iPhones, Android phones, tablets, and more. Much like the Android version available for tablets and phones, the web version of xCloud will include a simple launcher with recommendations for games. It will also let you resume recently played titles and access all cloud games available through the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Once a game is launched, it will run fullscreen and you will need a controller to play games on the xCloud web version. However, the report does not mention what resolution the browser version will support. Since Microsoft is using Xbox One S hardware for its existing xCloud infrastructure, we don’t expect to see 4K support until the backend hardware is upgraded to Xbox Series X grade. The upgrade is planned to occur later this year.

Furthermore, Microsoft is also planning to bundle xCloud web with the PC version of the Xbox app on Windows 10. xCloud is limited to Chromium-based web browsers like Chrome and Edge Chromium for now, but will likely be supported on more browsers later on.
