ZTE Demoes Next-Gen Under-Display Camera

ZTE unveiled the world’s first smartphone with an under-display selfie camera last year. Although the commercialization of the device marked the first step in a whole new arena, the camera quality wasn’t anything to write home about.

However, in a recent announcement, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer claimed that it was able to improve the technology and the new under-display camera will debut with the Axon 30 Pro 5G at MWC Shanghai with much better quality.

Ni Fei, the President of Mobile Devices at ZTE, also posted a teaser photo on his personal Weibo profile giving us the first look at the upcoming device, and to be honest, it does look better than the ZTE Axon 20. When zoomed in, the image points to both less visible issues with the panel over the camera sensor and overall improved image quality.

The first-generation panel with support for an under-display camera was developed by Visinox. The company will most likely use an upgraded version of a similar panel. However, for now, the company is not responding to any questions.

In other news, ZTE will also present the world’s first under-screen 3D structured light technology at the event. We’ll learn more about both of these technologies at the MWC Shanghai which is starting today.
