PM Approves Multi-Million Dollar Grant for Sports in Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a grant of Rs. 52 million for the development of sports in Sri Lanka, as per an announcement on Twitter by the Sri Lankan Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Namal Rajapaksa.

Thankful to HE Imran Khan for allocating a fund of 52 million PKR toward the development of sport and sporting infrastructure in Sri Lanka, along with a youth exchange program to further develop social and cultural ties.

The announcement came during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s two-day maiden visit to Sri Lanka where he interacted with the Sri Lankan leadership.

Apart from the assurance of financial aid, the two countries have inked multiple memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation in the fields of tourism, investment, education, and technology.

In this regard, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan has decided to award full scholarships to 100 students from Sri Lanka in the top medical institutes of the country. His announcement came on the final day of the two-day visit.

Minister Qureshi also highlighted the defense and security cooperation between the two countries, saying that defeating terrorism is equally important for both Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

“Pakistan has offered Sri Lanka a credit line of $15 million in this regard,” he said.

Thanking Prime Minister Khan for his generous offers, the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister said that Imran Khan’s visit will strengthen the countries’ bilateral ties and cooperation.
