NHA Unable to Carry Out Maintenance Work on Highways Due to Budget Shortfall

The National Highways Authority (NHA) is facing annual losses exceeding Rs. 45 billion for large-scale maintenance work.

Given the increasing influx of traffic along the 13,000 km stretch under its jurisdiction, the maintenance activities in various segments are also expected to multiply each year.

A Member of the Coordination of the NHA, Asim Amin, discussed the NHA’s stance on the matter in an open session and suggested a ballpark investment kitty of at least Rs. 80 billion for the maintenance of its existing framework.
