After the announcement of spring vacations for educational institutes in Punjab and Islamabad, Federal Minister for Federal Education, Shafqat Mahmood is once again trending on Twitter. Shafqat Mahmood has been in the limelight throughout the pandemic.
When the schools were initially shut down, he was hailed as a hero, but the students soon turned against him when the decision to re-open the schools was announced.
The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) decided to close down the schools till 28 March amidst the third wave of COVID-19. Twitter is flooded with thousands of memes as students rejoice at the closure of schools.

The schools were recently re-opened from first February after a two-month closure due to the second wave of COVID-19 outbreak late last year. The government had decided to resume regular classes from the first of March.
The COVID-19 situation is worsening as Pakistan has reported the highest number of cases in a day since the end of January. NCOC revealed that there is indeed a surge in the cases but the situation is not as bad as during the second wave of the pandemic.
