The Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, has stated that an inter-provincial education ministers’ meeting has been called on Wednesday, March 24, to decide regarding the reopening or further closure of educational institutions in the country amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases.
The Education Minister announced the news on Twitter, saying:
All education/health ministers will meet Wednesday, March 24, to take a decision regarding [the] opening or further closure of educational institutions.
He noted that the meeting has been called at the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), where health officials from all six administrative units will brief the meeting regarding the pandemic situation in their respective provinces to help the NCOC and the educational bodies to make an informed decision.
The federal government had closed schools in several parts of Punjab, KP, and Islamabad for two weeks from March 15 due to a sudden spike in the UK-strain of COVID-19. The variant, according to scientists, is much more lethal and spreads faster than the original one.
