Babar Azam Reveals His Next Personal Target

After conquering the ICC ODI batsman rankings, Pakistan captain, Babar Azam, has set his sights on ICC Test batsman rankings. Babar revealed that his ultimate goal is to become the number one batsman in the most prestigious format of the game.

On Wednesday, Babar officially became the number one ODI batsman in the world, surpassing his Indian counterpart, Virat Kohli. On the same day, Babar continued his exceptional form with the bat in the T20I format as well, scoring a magnificent century. It was the first T20I century of his career.

Babar held the number one spot in T20Is for a couple of years, before being displaced by English batsman, Dawid Malan. He is currently ranked number three in the format and will be looking to get back to the top of the T20I rankings as well, but he has his sight firmly set on the Test rankings.

Babar said ” I have also previously topped the T20I rankings, but the ultimate ambition and goal is to lead the Test rankings, which are the real testament and reward to a batsman’s caliber, reputation, and skills. I understand to achieve this objective, I will not only have to perform consistently but more importantly, against the top sides. I am looking forward to this challenge and remain confident I will be able to accomplish this target with the support of my teammates and coaching staff.”

Babar is currently ranked number six in the world in ICC Test batsman rankings and is only one of two batsmen in the world to be ranked amongst the top ten in each format. Babar has played 31 Test matches in his career so far, scoring 2,167 runs at an average of 44.22. He has scored 5 centuries and 15 half-centuries in 57 Test innings.
