Punjab Govt Begins Forcibly Retiring Corrupt Employees

The government of Punjab has started forced retirement of corrupt and incompetent employees after 20 years of service.

As per reports, the government has written a letter to the provincial departments asking for lists of corrupt officers to be submitted within ten days.

Action will be taken against these officers under the Punjab Civil Servants Directory Retirement Service Rules 2021.

The officers whose performance has been marked as ‘average’ or ‘poor’ thrice on their annual reports, or are facing corruption charges after returning ill-gotten money by entering a plea bargain with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be forced into retirement under the rules.

Sources said that two boards have been established at the provincial level for the forced retirement of officers and employees. Iram Bukhari, the Chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary, will lead the board that will act against the officers up to Grade 18.

Further, the Additional Chief Secretary has also been given the power to take action against the officers of the Health Department and Education up to Grade 19. Reports suggest that the board, headed by the Chief Secretary Punjab will approve the forced retirement of officers of Grade 19 and above.

The notification of their removals will be issued by the concerned officer.
