President Urges Universities to Boost Hybrid Education Mode

The President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, has directed public and private universities to increase the component of hybrid education so that students may have cost-effective and easily accessible education.

While addressing a meeting held to discuss the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) at the President House on Thursday, he said, “The universities need to equip their students with modern IT skills to meet the future security threats arising out of cyberwarfare”.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the PIEAS Board of Governors, Muhammad Naeem, Rector Dr. Nasir Majeed Mirza, deans, and senior management.

During the meeting, the Rector briefed President Alvi about the performance and role of the institute in promoting professional education in Pakistan. He stated that PIEAS is a degree-awarding university that conducts academic and training programs in various disciplines.

“Over 5,000 students had graduated from the institute in degree programs in diverse fields such as Nuclear Engineering, Medical Physics, and Electrical Engineering,” he said.

The President underscored the importance of research and development and asked the universities to broaden the spectrum of research and focus on the intellectual development of students to meet the challenges of the modern world. He also suggested developing international collaborations with universities of good repute to benefit from their expertise and research.

He praised the achievements of the PIEAS particularly for its role in the scientific development of Pakistan.
