Another Large COVID-19 Vaccine Consignment Arrives in Islamabad

A PIA flight carrying another consignment of Coronavirus vaccine from China reached Islamabad International Airport on Sunday.

According to details, the shipment consists of 680,000 doses of Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine which will be distributed among the provinces as per their requirements.

On Saturday, 1.32 million doses of Sinopharm’s vaccine arrived in Islamabad. Both consignments are a part of a purchase agreement between Islamabad and Beijing, under which Pakistan bought 2 million doses of Sinopharm’s vaccine from China.

On Friday, another shipment consisting of 64,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine reached Islamabad. The consignment is a part of the direct supply agreement, under which the NDMA secured 13 million doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine directly from the company.

Earlier this week, the Federal Health Ministry said that the federal government has planned to procure 30 million more doses of Coronavirus vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and China this month.

The announcement is in line with the government’s target to vaccinate 80 million citizens against COVID-19 by the end of 2021.
