England’s Test captain, Joe Root, has overtaken Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman, Mohammad Rizwan, as the highest run-scorer in 2021 across all formats. Root has been in magnificent form over the past year and scored his fourth Test century in the first Test match against India, taking his tally to 1,211 runs in the calendar year.

Root is also the leading run-scorer in Tests this year. He has scored 1,064 runs at an average of 59.11 in 9 matches this year. Root, once an integral part of England’s limited-overs side, has recently been out of contention for the T20I squad and has only played three ODIs this year. He has scored 147 runs, including two half-centuries in two innings he has played this year.
On the other hand, the flamboyant wicket-keeper batsman, Mohammad Rizwan, has also been one of the most in-form players this year and is the leading run-scorer in T20Is in 2021. He has scored 752 runs at an average of 94.00 in 14 innings in T20Is this year. His Test record has been sublime as well, having scored 303 runs at an average of 50.50 in the 7 innings he has played. He has scored a total of 1,189 runs across all formats this year.
