Samsung recently announced the world’s first 200MP camera sensor and has already started shipping it to manufactures. Since Xiaomi is usually the first to feature new Samsung cameras in its phones, we expect to see the new 200MP camera on a Xiaomi phone soon.
In fact, we may see the new camera sensor on an upcoming flagship phone, the Xiaomi 12. According to the popular Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, one of Xiaomi 12 models will feature a 200MP + 50MP camera combo. Both of these cameras are going to be large, as per the tipster.
He adds that Xiaomi will continue to use 100MP and 64MP cameras on its phone, most likely for its mid-range devices.
Since Samsung is the only company with a 200MP camera sensor, it is safe to assume that the Xiaomi 12 will feature the ISOCELL HP1 sensor. This camera sensor is capable of full pixel rendering with 2×2 and 4×4 pixel binning. It can capture 50MP images with 2×2 binning and 12.5MP images in the 4×4 binning mode. As for videos, it is capable of capturing 8K clips at 30 FPS.
This will make the Xiaomi 12 the world’s first 200MP camera phone, which comes as no surprise as Xiaomi was also the first to introduce a 108MP camera phone to the world (the Mi Note 10).
