Sindh Govt Labels Single National Curriculum as Martial Law

The Sindh government has termed the introduction of the Single National Curriculum (SNC) as ‘martial law’ and reiterated that both education and curriculum are provincial matters.

Briefing a press conference, Sindh’s Education Minister, Syed Sardar Shah, said that the federal government cannot impose its decision on provinces as they have a right to teach students in their respective mother languages.

Urdu and Sindhi languages will continue to be taught in Sindh. Just like Punjab has every right to teach students about the teachings of Baba Bulleh Shah, Sindh has the right to enlighten students about the valor of Hoshu Sheedi.

The Sindh Education Minister added that the Sindh government might support the federal government in implementing the SNC for only science subjects.

The PTI-led federal government formulated and introduced the SNC in haste and without taking the Sindh government into confidence. It also didn’t bother to look at the 1973 Constitution, according to which education is purely a provincial matter.

It must be noted here that the federal government introduced the SNC for KG to Class 5 across the country last month, a move that was openly rejected by the Sindh government.
